You’ll hike, camp, cook, and sleep overnight while receiving hands-on instruction every step of the way.

During the overnight trip, we will cover:

• Proper tent setup and campsite selection
• Backpack fit, adjustment, and weight distribution
• Water filtering and treatment
• Navigation without cell service (maps, GPS apps, backups)
• Emergency preparedness and satellite communicator use
• Backcountry cooking, stoves, fuel, and food systems
• Review of your gear and clothing with personalized feedback
• Walkthrough of the guide’s personal backpacking setup
• Group learning with other beginner backpackers - make friends!

Group size is kept small to ensure personalized instruction.

Location & Trip Details

• Location: Crystal Cove State Park (Laguna Beach, CA)
• Hike Distance: Approximately 3 miles uphill from the parking lot
• Campsites: Primitive backcountry sites
• Bathrooms: Available
• Water: No water at camp — participants must carry all drinking and cooking water
• Group Size: Limited to 6 participants

This short approach makes the trip an excellent gear shakedown overnight while still delivering a true backpacking experience.
